Petrichor - Hafta Frame it Gallery
Opening Night: October 25th, 2025, Exhibition 1 -Oct 25 to Oct 31, 2025. Exhibition 2- November 22- December 6.
In Petrichor, oil painter Liz Haney presents a series of ten new works that reflect on the increasingly volatile state of our environment. Through the use of dramatic colour, layered texture, and nuanced blurring, Haney captures both the sublime and destructive forces of forest fires and floods, creating a visual language that speaks to the tension between beauty and loss.
Beyond the visual, Petrichor incorporates a sense of sound within the paintings themselves- realized through variations in mark -making that suggest rhymn, movement and vibration. This sensorial element brings the works to life, allowing them to resonate as both seen and felt experiences.
A lifelong observer of the landscape, Haney’s connection to her subject deepened after the wildfires of 2023 in Quebec, when smoke polution transformed her daily reality. That experience gave rise to an urgent need to translate emotion into form and to explore themes of adaptability, resilience, and the interconnectedness of human and ecological systems.
Petrichor- named for the scent of earth after rain - embodies both renewal and mourning. Through her tactile, immersive approach, Haney offers a holistic mediation on how we live within, respond to, and shape the changing natural world.
